Cleaning Your Hearing Aids

Keeping hearing aids clean helps them sound clearer, feel more comfortable and work more reliably. A small daily routine can prevent many common device issues.

Before you start

  1. Wash and dry your hands before handling your hearing aids.
  2. Use a soft, dry cloth and any cleaning tool provided by your clinician.
  3. Do not use water, sprays, alcohol wipes or household cleaning products on your hearing aids.
  4. Work over a clean, dry surface so small parts are easier to find if dropped.

General connection steps

  1. Remove the hearing aids carefully and check for visible wax, dust or moisture.
  2. Wipe each hearing aid with a soft, dry cloth.
  3. Check the part that sits in or near the ear, such as the dome, earmould or receiver opening.
  4. Gently remove loose debris using the cleaning tool provided or as shown by your clinician.
  5. Check that the sound outlet is clear and not blocked by wax or debris.
  6. Store the hearing aids in a safe, dry place when they are not being worn.

Helpful tips

  1. Clean hearing aids at the end of the day so moisture and debris are removed before storage.
  2. Keep devices away from bathrooms, sinks, steam, heat and pets.
  3. If sound is still weak after cleaning, the wax filter may need changing.
  4. Ask our team to show you the correct cleaning method for your specific hearing aids.
