What happens at a hearing test?
Step #1 - General questions
- Has your hearing loss been gradual or sudden?
- Is it in both ears?
- Do you have pain or discharge from your ears?
- Do you have a history of ear infections?
- Have you suffered any head trauma?
- Have you had any operations on your ears?
- Do you have family members with hearing loss or other hearing problems?
- Are you taking any medications?
- Have you recently undergone anaesthetic?
- Does your lifestyle expose you to excessive noise?
- Were you in the military?
- Does your occupation expose you to excessive noise?
- What do you have the most difficulty hearing?
Step #2 - Perform a hearing assessment
We’ll look in your ears, test your eardrums and perform a full hearing assessment which will assess whether you can hear within the ‘normal range’ and, if you cannot, we will determine which frequencies are affected – and help to guide you to a resolution that’s right for you- whether that’s monitoring, referral or hearing solutions.
What are the costs surrounding a hearing test?
Pensioners and Veterans with relevant DVA repatriation cards are entitled to subsidised hearing services through the government’s Hearing Services Programme (HSP). A full hearing assessment for adults not on the HSP scheme will cost $120. This includes wax removal (if required) and a full report to your Doctor. Children up to the age of 18yrs pay $100 for a hearing assessment.
